AHSAA State Baseball Championships Class 4A State Baseball Championship Series Game 1: Brooks 4, Sipsey Valley 1

MONTGOMERY – Senior pitcher Thorne Trapp pitched a complete-game victory Wednesday night to lead Brooks (26-8) to a 4-1 victory over Sipsey Valley (21-15) in the first game of the AHSAA Class 4A State Baseball Championship Series Wednesday night at Paterson Field.
The two teams will resume the best 2-of-3 series at 4 p.m., Thursday at Riverwalk Stadium.  Game three, if needed, will follow immediately after completion of the second game.  All AHSAA Championship Series games are being live-streamed by the NFHS Network over its subscriber-based platform.     Thorne scattered eight hits, walked one and struck out six in a solid performance for Coach Jacob Fowler’s Lions. He and Sipsey Valley junior hurler Cade Whitley were locked in quite a pitching duel with the game tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Brooks got three runs in the bottom of the sixth and then blanked the Bears of Coach Bobby Moore in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Charlie Crowley, batting eighth in the Brooks lineup, singled to left to start the rally. Kobe Warden then beat out a sacrifice bunt for a hit and lead-off hitter Lake Spurgeon walked to load the bases. Crowley scored on a wild pitch, Warden came in on a sacrifice fly and Peyton Plants singled to drive in the insurance run.
Brandon Moore, who was brought to the mound in the sixth to close down the rally, singled in Sipsey Valley’s only run in the top of the sixth. Brett Urban doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth for Brooks and scored the game’s first run when catcher Hayden Walton doubled to right field to drive him in.
Walton, Plants and Crowley each had two hits for the Lions. Tyler Moore and Caleb Junkin had two hits each for the Bears.
