Daleville’s Jalen White Rushes for 462 Yards, 8 Touchdowns on 9 Carries

AHSAA Offensive Spotlight

MONTGOMERY – Daleville High School senior running Jalen White, who leads the nation in rushing this season, was in top form once again in the Warhawks’ 78-26 victory over winless Barbour County.

After rushing for 465 yards and seven touchdowns on 26 carries last week, he followed up with 462 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on just nine carries – all in the first half – to earn the AHSAA Offensive Spotlight for the second week in a row.
White had TD runs were 29, 54, 75, 37, 41, 65, 81 and 69 yards – an average of 51.4 yards per carry, which ranks third best in AHSAA single-game history. The Warhawks scored 10 touchdowns for the night on just 11 offensive plays.
He boosted his season rushing totals to 3,381 yards and 46 touchdowns and became just the fifth player in AHSAA history to rush for more than 3,000 yards in a single season. He is the first to reach that milestone in the regular season, however.
His yardage total is now second best in AHSAA history, only 102 yards behind the state-record of 3,483 set by Dale County's Jamarius Henderson in 2014 in 15 games. The 46 TDs is now only seven behind the state record of 53 by North Jackson's Lee Witherspoon in 2018. White now has 6,490 career yards (12th most in AHSAA history).
Others in the 3,000 yards rushing club include Kendal Gibson of Aliceville (2000), Lee Cagle of Lynn (1996) and Sherman Williams of Blount (1990). Each running back played in 15 games.
Daleville (7-3) is off this week and will begin the Class 4A state playoffs next week as the No. 4 seed from Class 3A, Region 2.
Making a strong challenge for the Offensive Spotlight was Locust Fork quarterback Charlie Cater. He accounted for 462 yards and six touchdowns in Locust Fork's 55-46 victory over Hanceville to clinch second seed in Class 3A, Region 5.
He was 24-of-27 passing for 334 yards and two TDs and rushed 18 times for 128 yards and four scores in the win.
For the season Cater has 3,157 total yards (1,461 rushing, 21 TD's, 1,660 passing and 14 TDs. He also has one pass reception of 36 yards and has punted for a 36.6-yard average on 28 kicks this season. He needs just 39 or more rushing yards to become the first Locust Fork player to rush for 1,500 yards and pass for 1,500 yards in the same season.
