North Sweeps Girls’ and Boys’ Games 2-0, 2-1 at Emory Folmar Soccer Complex

MONTGOMERY – The North All-Stars scored twice in the second half to beat the South 2-0 in the 2018 North-South All-Star girls’ soccer match played at Emory Folmar Soccer Complex Tuesday night.  The North boys rallied to win its match 2-1.
      Chelsea’s Lexie Duca scored the first goal of the match five minutes into the second half to put the North ahead for good. Her goal was assisted by Madison Academy’s Emery Mills. Mills, who had five shots on goal, got the an unassisted goal at 70:31 in the match to close the scoring. She earned North MVP honors.
     North keepers Sarah Adair of Mountain Brook and Brianna Burroughs of Tanner had five saves between them. South keeper Adriana Wright of Northview had nine saves to claim MVP for the South.
    The victory upped the North’s domination in the series to 14-2-1.
    North coaches were Clif Naron of Helena and Tray Stanford of Huntsville. Coaching the South were Cheryl Flores of McGill-Toolen Catholic and Sophie Stargel of Auburn.
    North Boys 2, South 1: Logan Frost of Briarwood Christian scored the first goal just 14:50 into the match with an assist from John Carroll Catholic midfielder Jack Bapst. The South tied the match at 1-1 with Joseph Quinn of Spanish Fort nailing a goal at 60:07 in the second half. Westminster-Oak Mountain’s Price Leonard, who earned North MVP honors, scored the winning goal unassisted at 63:45.
     Goalkeepers Johnathan Williams of Vestavia Hills and Jude Vachon of Madison Academy had 4 and 3 saves, respectively, for the North, coached by Matthew Pharr of Cherokee County and Jake Siefert of Sparkman. The North leads the series 13-4-1 after Tuesday’s win.
      South keepers Josh Burton of Baldwin County and William Blake of McGill-Toolen Catholic combined for five saves. The South coaches were Bruce Ladner of Enterprise and Nick Berryman of Alabama Christian.
