Phillips 66, Westminster-Oak Mountain 48

BIRMINGHAM – Phillips of Bear Creek shot 80.5% from the foul line Monday morning to seal the Bears’ 66-48 win over Westminster-Oak Mountain as the AHSAA 2019 State Basketball Championships got underway at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
   The Bears (25-10) of coach Scott Veal were 33-of-41 at the charity stripe, including 21-of-28 in the final period as Phillips staved off a strong comeback effort by the Lady Knights.  Guard Misty Dishner finished with 28 points for the Bears, nailing 17-of-23 free throws. Forward Allicyn McCollum added 16 points and 16 rebounds. She was a perfect 10-of-10 at the foul line and blocked four shots.  Gracie Hallman added 10 points.
    Westminster (21-9), coached by Dana Gache, was paced by Morgan White’s 25 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. The Knights were also strong at the foul line hitting 8-of-10. White was 6-of-7 and also nailed three 3-point goals. Megan Gache added seven points and 12 rebounds.
    The AHSAA State Basketball Championships continues Monday with the remaining Class 1A girls’ and boys’ semifinals and the Class 2A semis. Classes 3A and 4A play Tuesday. Classes 5A and 6A play Wednesday and Class 7A semis will be Thursday morning. The remaining schedule will be the state finals.
    All semifinal games are being live-streamed over the NFHS Network’s subscriber-based program and broadcast over the AHSAA Radio Network. The finals will also be produced by the NFHS Network and AHSAA Radio Network with the live video also being shown over the Alabama Cable Network.
