Pleasant Grove Linebacker Rodney Groce Leads Spartans to Impressive Shutout over Wenonah

AHSAA Defensive Spotlight for Week 6

MONTGOMERY – Pleasant Grove High School senior inside linebacker Rodney Groce had 10 tackles, including three sacks, to lead the Spartans to a 21-0 shutout over Wenonah last week.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior earned the AHSAA Defensive Spotlight for Week 6 in the process.
Coach Darrell LaBeaux’s Spartans (5-1) improved to 3-1 in Class 5A, Region 4 with the important region win. Pleasant Grove’s defense limited Wenonah to just five first downs and only allowed the Dragons into Spartans territory twice all night. Groce, a University of Nebraska verbal commitment, got plenty of help from his teammates. Fellow linebackers Elijah Thomas and Tyvese Harrison had nine tackles each with three sacks between them.
    “
Rodney Groce played a heck of a game,” LeBeaux told al.com reporter Anton Williams. Harrison and Thomas also played great. When they play like that, we are a pretty good team."
